Installation & Usage
When I first inspected the new replacement case the first thing I noticed was that there were scratches on
the clear windowed X design. However, right after I realized that it had a protective plastic on it and once
removed there were no longer any scratches. In the pictures I pealed off one of the corners just so you
could see the protective cover. So you can be sure that your replacement case will come ship shape
after shipping.
Since there are hundreds of tutorials on the web explaining how to dismantle your Xbox 360, I will try to
avoid explaining every little step need to open it. Instead of an installation guide I will focus mostly
on just reviewing the case, but if you do need instructions to remove and install your case you can find
them here (http://www.xbox-accessories.com/instructions/disassemble360.html) (

I’ve opened about 5 different Xbox 360 cases so far and didn’t have this handy little tool that comes with
your replacement case. I’ve used the cutout pins from a CDR spindle, which I have to say really sucks. It
usually takes forever to get it to snap your back pins and is just annoying when it takes more then 5
minutes. The next method is the one I’ve grown fond of which most people like to call the clamshell method.
Where you just open up the case as if it was clam shell. Since the original 360’s case is made of pretty
durable plastic it just snaps off in about two seconds, but this method is pretty dangerous it could break
your case. Now that I’ve had a chance to use this opening tool I have no intention on ever going back. I
was really amazing at how well it worked. Just pushed the metal into the pins and POW! Case could be removed.
Now that I've dismantled your original case it’s time to put your new black replacement case together.
Since the top cover has a bunch of LED’s surrounding the X window you will need to plug the DVD drives
power cable into it and then plug that adapter back into the DVD drive. Also don’t forget to change the
eject button before putting the case back together if your planning to change everything to the matching
black. The DVD bezel you don’t have to worry about since you can pop that out even after the case is
closed just by ejecting the tray.
The first time I put this case back together I was a little careless and it didn’t line up right and
caused the top of the DVD bezel to hit the faceplate. So as an early warning don’t do a crappy job and
pay attention to how you screw the covers on. Once that is done its just snapping the new black side
covers and putting the face plate on. As you can see this mod is pretty simple and easy and any novice
can handle it I would say.
If you look closely right behind the X shaped window you will find a very tiny switch. This comes in
handy if you suddenly have the urge to turn off the LED’s and I do have to say they do shine pretty
bright from that window. The switch is placed perfectly concealed so it does not take away from the
slick design.
Conclusion
I do have to say this has got to be one of the slickest looking case replacements I have seen for the 360.
It replaces every single piece on the 360 so it matches into a perfect black console. Another bonus of the
package is that it comes with everything you need in order to open the case. So if you’re looking to flash
your firmware and need to open your case these tools make it a heck of a lot easier to open the case. Not
to mention that the LED and window design look great in the dark while playing. However one thing that I
would love to see on a replacement case would be a SATA port on the back for the DVD drive making it easy
access to rip and flash without removing the DVD drive from the case. Still this is an awesome case.
