Installation & Usage
Replacing your controller case is a fairly simple task. A person could probably even do it without the guide as
long as they knew where the soldering points for the three wires that power up the LEDs would go, but if you wish
to have an in depth picture guide you can get one here.
You start off by unscrewing six screws with the screwdriver included in the package. You will need this screwdriver,
as it is not a normal screw shape (unless you already have a bit that fits these screws). There are six screws on
the back of the controller and one hiding in the battery slot behind the sticker (I actually didn’t notice there
was a screw here till looking at the guide). Now that you have all the screws out it’s as simple as just pulling
the two pieces apart.
From here on out its pretty much just snapping out the pieces inside. The d-pad does have two tiny screws on it.
You will have to use your own tiny Philips screw driver to get these out. Then there is the left and right trigger’s
that you can pretty much just snap out (if confused how to do so it is also included in the guide on how to take
them apart).
Now you can put the D-Pad in the new case and swap out the guts. Before closing the case if you want your LED’s to
light up you will need to solder three simple wires. The soldering is so simple I would go to say that if it’s your
first time soldering you could probably handle this mod. Once that is done your ready to close your case and enjoy
gaming with your new chromed out controller.
A handy little feature on the controller is that it has a button on the front end to turn off the LED’s. So if your
AA batteries are running low and you want to conserve some energy or if you just don’t feel like looking at the
pretty little lights, you have the option to turn it off at any time.
Conclusion
Over all I’d say this is a very simple mod to complete. The trickiest part of the whole thing was probably just
sliding the bottom cover in with out moving the circuit board inside out of place. The soldering was a breeze
since they already have three wires there for you to solder at one end. The On/Off switch is always a nice feature
to have when you got bright LED’s involved. The bad thing about this mod is that since it’s very shiny be prepared
to have to wipe out your fingerprints off it to keep it looking nice. However it’s still not as bad with the
fingerprints compared to the PSP. Another negative about the case was that I bought one of the official Microsoft
rechargeable batteries and while trying to put it in the slot it definitely felt like a tight fit and not to
mention that its white compared to the case.
Positives
Full Replacement Controller case Nice chrome finished paint Pretty LED’s on the buttons On/Off switch for LED’s
Negatives
