SNES Advance Adapter Review Written by Brakken
October, 2005
Introduction
For some time now I’ve been in possession of the SNES Advance Adapter for the GameBoy Advance (GBA)
console. The adapter will let you control your GBA with a Super Nintendo controller. Up until this
point only had native support in Loopy’s SNES Advance emulator, but recently aheadgames released a
patching utility for normal GBA images and I felt it was time to write up a review of the device.
Features
Control your GBA with a SNES Controller Plug N’ Play Connection Patching Program Included Retro “Oldschool” Feel
Supported Hardware
GameBoy Advance GameBoy SP GameBoy Player for GameCube
Contents of the Package
The very low priced adapter consists of a 9” (22.8cm) cable with the appropriate GBA link and SNES
connectors on each end. Additionally, if you’re like me your SNES is long gone so you can snatch up a
SNES controller with the adapter for a few dollars more.
Operating
If you’re going to be using this adapter on your GBA you’re going to need to do so using a flashcart
and will also have to patch each image you’re going to want to play. Fortunately, aheadgames has
released a patching utility that is simple to operate which will patch an entire folder of images
for you in one swipe.
Simply patch your images, put them on your flashcart, connect the SNES Advance Adapter and then play!
While playing there is no lag and the gameplay is still smooth. Moreover, you can still use the normal
controller to play with if you decide to.
Conclusion
If you are in possession of a GBA to TV adapter and/or the GameBoy Player for the GameCube controlling
the games on a big screen television with a SNES Controller gives you and oldschool feeling, but if
you’re only using the small screen you might feel left in the dust. If you’re a collector of items and
had been around for the good old SNES days it might be a good idea to pick one of these low priced
units up.
