This time around I'm reviewing the second generation of Team Xtender's replacement cases. These cases have fixed a few flaws in the previous design and come in an assortment of solid colors that match the original GameCube cases.
Immediately after opening the samples I recieved from eXtreme Mods and Team Xtender I noticed these cases were more solid then the last batch and had a really nice smooth finish. I then proceeded to move the jewel around to watch the awesome image changing effects!
Once again I turned it upside down to take a look inside I noticed that it still uses cheaper solutions for the buttons then the original Cube case does and that the sides were still a little bit warped, but nothing compared to the previous case and far from the other defective cases on the market.
Installation
Getting the case installed was a breeze. I used Xtender's high quality magnetized GameBit driver and it worked like a charm! I simply removed the four screws then put the case on! I was very pleased to see you no longer have to cut the screw poll that used to interfere with the installation!
Of course the case slid down right and fit like a charm with no large gaps in the case and again when screwing the case on there were no grinding noises of warped plastic trying to fit and the bits fit nice and snug!
When opening the top of the case I noticed it does not fly open as fast as their other case, but this never bothered me to begin with. I opened it over and over again and it never got stuck or jammed!
Again came the time to test the inserting and removal of full sized media. Of course there is still a large gap in the front of the case which will allow you to remove the media using one hand and is hassle free. Nothing new here!
The full sized jewel was a great addition as a lot of people wanted a full sized case solution in which they could use their own jewels in. The jewel is the exact same size as the original Nintendo one and can be swapped very easily!
The colors match almost 100%, but you will notice the top of the case has a smoother more glossy finish. I don't mind this as I think it looks better!
I also put Xtender's Gamebit to the test! I ran it over with a car and it didn't break! Good quality all around!
Why you should buy this case.
Installs as promised quickly and easily!
Great quality plastic! Very sturdy!
Dip in the front of the lid to remove media with one hand!
The handle is still present on the back for easy portability!
Use full sized jewels!
Conclusion
Team Xtender has presented the public again with a superb product with no noticeable flaws. The case is made from high grade plastic, isn't defective, works as promised and matches the original colors of the GameCube almost 100%. If you're in the market for a reasonably priced full sized replacement shell add this to your list!
I'm also glad to see that Xtender has listened to their customer's feedback and have fixed the minor issues with its fine line of cases as this goes to show that they are professional company that cares about its consumers!
